Clarke School New York News and Events
Welcome From Director Welcome to Clarke School - New York founded in 1999 at 80 East End Avenue in Manhattan. Clarke School - New York is a campus of the Clarke School for the Deaf/Center for Oral Education in Northampton, MA. Parents who choose Clarke School - New York have made a very important decision; one that will affect their child's outlook, adjustment and future success in and out of school. Clarke School - New York's purpose is to instill in deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing children a belief in their own capabilities and to provide them with the skills they need to participate freely, full and independently in a hearing, speaking world. Clarke School - New York's preschool is also an integrated program, with hearing, deaf and hard of hearing children together in one class. It is the mission of Clarke School - New York to provide an educational program designed to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing children, who are unable to benefit sufficiently from instruction provided for children with typically developing auditory, speech and language skills. Our goal is to prepare the children to join their peers in mainstream education as soon as possible. To accomplish this, the auditory/oral method of instruction, without manual means of communication, is used at Clarke School - New York. We help each child to develop a foundation made up of confidence, love, sense of self-worth and pride. The end result will be a child who meets the world head on saying," I can do it!, I am special!"Meredith L.
