Join our team of caring, outgoing professionals. Clarke School is a residential school servicing deaf and hard of hearing children ages 4 to 16. Clarke School is a leader in teaching deaf children to listen and talk; no knowledge of sign language is necessary.

WEEKDAY HOUSEPARENT
One woman needed for a group of 6 (ages 9-15) teenage girls. Must be over 23 years of age with a valid driver's license. Previous experience with children preferred. This is a full-time, live-in position with paid room and board. Paid benefits included. Duty times are early mornings, after school hours and evenings.

Position Title: Librarian

CLARKE School for the Deaf/Center for Oral Education located in Northampton MA invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Librarian for the Alumni Library and Bill G. Blevins Professional Library. These unique campus libraries serve the school's students, staff and graduate students as well as staff in the audiological, mainstream and family centers. Under the supervision of the school principals, the librarian devises, administers and implements policies, programs and procedures for the development, maintenance and use of the Alumni Library's collection for children and young adults and the Bill G. Blevins Professional Library's unique collection of historical and current resources on oral education and all aspects of deafness. This is a full-time, 35-hour per week position which includes a 5-week summer program for the academic year beginning in September 2008.

Qualifications:

  • Certified school librarian with an A.L.A. accredited MLS degree
  • A demonstrated record of significant professional experience including supervision
  • Strong knowledge of collection development to support MA educational standards and to develop specialized professional collections
  • Service-oriented with strong interpersonal and excellent written, verbal and technological skills
  • Ability to take a leadership role and to develop and strengthen collaboration with students, faculty and staff

Responsibilties:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures relating to selection, acquisition and arrangement of all library materials
  • Determine changes necessary to build and maintain a library collection that is current and appropriate for students, faculty and staff
  • Proficient with print and electronic resources in order to assist students and staff to have full access to information
  • Keep statistics of library use, holdings and inventories
  • Train and supervise the library staff
  • Prepare, monitor and maintain annual budgets for library acquisitions and other expenses
  • Develop long- and short-term goals for operation and improvement of library services
  • Work in cooperation with the school staff and administration to provide the most appropriate and effective resources, services and programs
  • Provide other services or initiate change as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Masters in Education of the Deaf, Audiology, or Speech and Language
  • Mass. Dept. of Education certification
  • EEC teacher certification or eligibility
  • SLP- ASHA certification; MA State License
  • Candidate must possess a strong commitment to the mission of Clarke School.
  • Effective planning, organization skills, oral and written communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to be a team member
  • Knowledge of curriculum in subject area, various learning styles, instructional techniques.
  • Knowledge of normal child development and experience in family-centered practice with children who are deaf or hearing-impaired.

Job Description

  • This person will provide individual audition, speech and language work in and outside of the classroom for the students enrolled in the preschool/kindergarten program during the school day and will provide services through the Parent/Infant Program in the afternoon.
  • Must be able to provide diagnostic information about the children's auditory and spoken language skill development.
  • Must be able to educate and support children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families and parents and assist in creating an environment that fosters independence, confidence, creativity, respect for people and materials and is conducive to enjoyment in learning.

Position Title: Director of the Mainstream Center -- Full Time Position

Position Overview: We are seeking a new director for Clarke's Mainstream Center, which was established in 1977 and is a leading national resource for deaf and hard of hearing children in mainstream school settings. Applicants should have strong management and supervisory skills and wide experience working with students of various ages. Experience as a teacher of the deaf is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:
The activities of the Center include:

  • Providing consulting services to families of students with hearing loss who are enrolled in mainstream schools, and to the staff of those schools
  • Assisting with the outplacement of Clarke School students into their new schools
  • Developing educational materials for mainstream schools
  • Presenting workshops around the U.S. on various aspects of hearing loss

The Director manages the Center's operations in a dynamic and ever-changing field by:

  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of the wide range of needs of children with hearing loss and their families
  • Demonstrating the ability to assess and support the Center's various programs
  • Developing strong relationships with families, school district personnel, and others involved in mainstreaming
  • Working with other Clarke staff and departments to coordinate the provision of services and maximize opportunities for the organization
  • Demonstrating a knowledge of local, state, and national laws and regulations regarding the mainstreaming of students with hearing loss
  • Developing new, improved, and cost-effective services for students who are mainstreamed, and for their schools

Technical Support Specialist, I.T.
Has overall responsibility for technical support to all CLARKE computer users.
  • Provides technical support by analyzing and resolving problems reported by users, including installing hardware and peripheral components, diagnosing and correcting system hardware, software, and user problems, and performing ongoing preventative maintenance.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding oral and written communication skills and an ability to interact respectfully with non-technical staff.
  • Time management, organizational and problem-solving skills essential.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Windows, 2000, NT, XP, MS-DOS, Windows Server 2003, Mac OS, and MS Office required.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, IPX, Web design, Blackbaud, Linux a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent experience in an education or human services environment and/or training/certification desirable.
