Announces the 30th Annual Fall Conference on Mainstreaming Students with Hearing Loss: "A Look Below the Surface" October 15-16, 2009 The Sheraton Hotel Springfield, Massachusetts
Each year for the past twenty-nine years, Clarke's Mainstream Services has hosted an annual fall conference to help educators and parents understand the nature of hearing loss and how they can be more successful in their work with their children. This two-day conference is designed to provide information on hearing loss and how to maximize success for students, parents and professionals in mainstream settings. Experts on hearing loss from around the country have been invited to share their knowledge and experience throughout the two days. Keynote Speaker Richard Lavoie, author of "It's So Much Work to be Your Friend"
Special Guest Speaker Jayna Altman, Miss International 2008 Other presenters include Mary Ellen Nevins, Marilyn Neault, Patricia Howey (from Wright's Law), Denise Fournier Eng, Lori Hutchison from PEPNet, and many more. Early childhood educators through high school teachers will find topics to meet their needs. Parents, Speech --Language Pathologists, Audiologists, School Counselors and Teachers of the Deaf are all considered when we formulate the program of workshops. A day-long short course designed for teachers who have not previously had a student with hearing loss in their classroom as well as advanced workshops for those with experience. Special Event - Making Connections, for students in grades 7-12 who have a hearing loss engages teens in activities with young adult youth leaders who were also mainstreamed. They'll also have a chance to chat with Jayna Altman. It's a fun and meaningful day! This conference is the only one of its kind in the United States that is offered each year. Anyone who works with a deaf or hard-of-hearing student who listens, speaks, speech reads, and uses the English language should be interested and attend.
